Scott Pearson

Scott Pearson (born c. 1975) is a former American soccer forward renowned for his impactful collegiate career at American University (AU) in Washington, D.C., during the mid-1990s.

Early Life and Background

Born in England, Pearson moved to Tampa, Florida, in 1981 with his family. He attended Chamberlain High School, where he excelled in soccer under the guidance of his father, Mike Pearson, the school’s coach. Coming from a soccer-centric family, all four Pearson brothers played the sport, with his older brother Craig playing at the University of Tampa and his younger brother Lee signing with a semi-professional team in England. Collegiate Career at American University

Initially considering the University of Louisville, Pearson opted for American University after receiving a full scholarship offer from Coach Bob Jenkins. His decision proved fruitful, as he quickly became a key player for the Eagles renowned for his exceptional collegiate career at American University (AU) from 1994 to 1997. He is celebrated as one of the most prolific scorers in the history of AU’s men’s soccer program.

Pearson’s tenure with the AU Eagles was marked by remarkable achievements. Over four seasons, he amassed a total of 141 points, comprising 55 goals and a program-record 31 assists. These statistics position him as the second all-time leading scorer in AU’s history.

  • Senior Year (1997): Pearson led the team with eight goals, showcasing his aggressive playing style and determination on the field. In his senior year, Pearson led the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals, culminating in a final national ranking of fifth by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). During that season, he topped the team’s scoring charts with 18 goals and 44 points, ranking third all-time for a single season at AU. His outstanding performance earned him Second Team All-American honors.

 

Notable Performances

Off the Field

Alen Kozic

Retired American soccer midfielder known for his dynamic play and international career. He is the son of Refik Kozić, a former Yugoslav and NASL defender who played for FK Partizan and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Kozić moved to the United States during his youth and attended Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida. There, he led the soccer team to three consecutive state championships from 1993 to 1995 and was honored as a high school All-American. He was also named the Tampa Bay Times Player of the Decade for Hillsborough County in the 1990s.

In 1993, playing for Temple Terrace Spirit, Kozić scored the winning goal in the final of the U17 US Youth Soccer National Championships. The following year, he was selected for the U17 Southeast USA regional team, competing in a tournament in France against youth squads from clubs like Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain.

Kozić played collegiate soccer at Florida International University (FIU) from 1995 to 1997. As a sophomore, he led FIU to the NCAA College Cup final in 1996.He earned NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer All-American First Team honors in both his sophomore and junior years and was the runner-up for the Hermann Trophy in 1997. Over his college career, he amassed 24 goals and 26 assists in 74 games, ranking eighth all-time in both categories at FIU.

In December 1997 through January 1998, Alen Kozic had a trial with SV Wüstenrot Salzburg.

In 1998 Kozic signed for Major League Soccer side Miami Fusion. He made his debut for the club in a friendly for Miami Fusion against the Honduras national team and scored the opening goal in a 4–2 win. He made his starting debut on 31 May 1998, against Dallas Burn. Days later, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in training. In 1999 he started in two matches for Miami Fusion: in May against Dallas Burn and in June against D.C. United. He totalled 18 games played for the MLS Project 40 A-League team composed of the best young MLS players.

From 2000 Kozic spent one year with Croatian club NK Istra 1961.

In the 2002–03 season, Kozic played 13 games for German club 1. FC Union Solingen in the Oberliga Nordrhein.

Kozic had an unsuccessful trial at Major League Soccer side D.C. United in April 2003.
