Scott Pearson

Scott Pearson, born around 1975, made his name as an American soccer forward. His time at American University in Washington, D.C. laid the foundation for everything his career would stand for.

Early Life and Background: A Family That Lived and Breathed Soccer

Scott Pearson was born in England and moved to Tampa, Florida, with his family in 1981. At Chamberlain High School, he played under his father, Mike Pearson, who coached the team. The game ran deep in their home. Craig, his older brother, played at the University of Tampa. Lee, the youngest, later joined a semi-pro club in England. Soccer was the language they all spoke. The College Years That Defined Him

Coach Bob Jenkins didn’t just hand Alen Pearson a scholarship. He offered belief. That single offer redirected Pearson’s journey to American University. From 1994 to 1997, Pearson gave everything he had to the AU Eagles. Across four relentless seasons, he stacked up 141 points including 55 goals and 31 assists. No one had ever created more chances. Only one player in the school’s history ever scored more. He became the second-highest scorer in the university’s men’s soccer records.

  • Freshman Year (1994): He began strong, collecting 29 points and earning a spot on the All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team. Tampa Bay Times+1The Washington Post+1
  • Sophomore Year (1995): He scored 11 goals and gave one assist in just 10 matches. That run included back-to-back hat tricks against Virginia Commonwealth and Howard. The Washington Post+3Tampa Bay Times+3The Washington Post+3
  • Junior Year (1996): He stayed consistent, playing with intensity and drive in every match that season.
  • Senior Year (1997): He led the team with 8 goals. That year, AU reached the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals and was ranked fifth nationally. He scored 18 goals that season and totaled 44 points. That performance still ranks third in the school’s single-season scoring records. He was named to the All-American Second Team.

Notable Performances: Moments That Turned Heads

On October 4, 1997, Pearson scored twice in the second half against William & Mary. AU had been down 3-0 at halftime but won 4-3. His efforts turned the game around completely. The Washington Post+1en.wikipedia.org+1

Off the Field: Beyond the Final Whistle

Pearson didn’t stop making an impact once he stepped off the field. He joined the Big Brother program at AU and mentored a young boy from Southeast D.C. named Leon Simpson. He took that role seriously and remained committed to helping. The Washington Post

Legacy: His Mark on the Game

He closed his college run with an average of 32 points per season. His performance placed him second in career points at American University. His presence was never flashy, but always consistent and respected.

Alen Kozic: A Career Built on Grit, Goals, and Global Play

Alen Kozic was born into football. His father, Refik Kozić, had once played for FK Partizan and the Tampa Bay Rowdies. That legacy shaped him early. After moving to the United States, Alen attended Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida, where he didn’t just play. He led. His leadership carried the school’s team to three straight state titles from 1993 to 1995. He earned All-American honors in high school and was later named Tampa Bay Times’ Player of the Decade for Hillsborough County.

In 1993, he struck the winning goal in the final of the U17 US Youth Soccer National Championship while playing for Temple Terrace Spirit. The next year, he was selected for the U17 Southeast USA regional team and flew to France. There, he faced youth squads from Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax.

At Florida International University, Alen Kozic made the midfield his responsibility. From 1995 to 1997, he drove FIU’s style forward with control, grit, and purpose. In 1996, he led the team to the NCAA College Cup Final, carrying the weight without hesitation. He earned First Team All-American honors two years straight and finished runner-up for the Hermann Trophy. Across 74 games, he produced 24 goals and 26 assists, landing him eighth on FIU’s all-time list in both scoring and playmaking. It was a quiet but permanent presence in the program’s history.

In late 1997, Kozic trained with Austria’s SV Wüstenrot Salzburg. A few months later, he signed with Major League Soccer’s Miami Fusion. In his first friendly match against Honduras, he scored early, helping secure a 4–2 win. He made his full debut on May 31, 1998, against Dallas Burn. Days later, he suffered a serious ACL injury in training.

Despite the setback, he returned in 1999, making starts against Dallas and D.C. United. That same year, he was part of MLS Project 40, a soccer team hospitality trip initiative aimed at nurturing future stars. He appeared in 18 matches with the A-League squad.

In 2000, Kozic joined Croatian club NK Istra 1961. He later moved to Germany and played 13 games for 1. FC Union Solingen during the 2002–03 season. In 2003, he had a trial with D.C. United, which didn’t result in a contract.

Alen Kozic moved on effort, not noise. He showed up, stayed ready, and kept pushing, whether in a college final, an overseas match, or while fighting his way back from injury. His story speaks to players chasing pre season college soccer tours, planning summer soccer trips, or setting out on a soccer tour that might change how they see the game, and themselves.
